A Summer of Wickedly Dangerous Fairytales, Adventure, and... 💖⚙️📚
Conventions! Open for book and event news 🎁
Happy Wednesday! My schedule is all over the place this week, but I'm so excited and grateful for my upcoming adventures! Yesterday, I had my weekly writing coffee date with my sister. I can't wait to continue this sanity-saving time together this summer, especially with revisions waiting for me when I return from traveling. (It truly helps having each other to talk through sticking points and check in once a week for accountability.)
As I'm writing this, I'm in the midst of packing for the Chicago Steampunk Expo this week! I'm on the road tomorrow to one of my favorite events of the year. I can't wait to see everyone again and welcome new people to the convention!
I'll be back for a couple days before I drive down to Kansas City for the Nebula Awards Conference from June 5th-June 8th! I'm so excited to be on the “Genre Wars: Mashups Instead of Knockouts” panel with this year’s Damon Knight Grand Master Nicola Griffith and Locus Award winner Ray Nayler!
This conference is for writers from a range of backgrounds, from novelists to game writers. If you're an author or an aspiring one, you can attend either in-person or virtually. For more information, check out the registration page here and the full conference schedule here.
The Chicago Steampunk Expo Starts on Friday!
The Chicago Steampunk Expo is this week! It takes place from May 30th to June 1st. I’ll have a table in the Palace of Fine Arts (the vending room with artists and authors) and I’m also presenting on these panels:
Inventions of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, Friday 8 pm-8:50 pm in Copper
Reading of The Clockwork Coffin, Saturday 2 pm-2:50 pm in the Tea Room (Cyan)
What if? Exploring Alternate History in Media, Sunday 12 pm-12:50 pm in Mahogany 1
I’m happy that I get to talk about so many things that are tied to my new book releases! I love getting to share the research that went into both The Clockwork Coffin and Alchemy and Automatons. (I also love that all of the convention rooms are named after real buildings from the 1893 World’s Fair!)
When I’m not at a panel, you can find me in the Palace of Fine Arts (formerly known as Printers’ Row/Artists’ Alley) at my table. (And on Saturday night at the masquerade! 💖)
Palace of Fine Arts Hours:
Friday — 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Saturday — 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Sunday — 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
If you're attending for the first time, this post will help you get started, but all you really need to remember is:
You don't have to dress up or cosplay (and if you do want to dress up, check out the vendors and the free clothes exchange for inspiration!)
Have fun! There are so many ways to get involved: attend panels, go to maker workshops, visit the mermaids with the Blood Sirens, attend Count Gregula’s Horror Movie Spectacular, attend the Leviathan preview screening and Writer Q&A with Scott Westerfeld, go to the concerts, listen to a reading, watch the fashion show, play in the LARP, etc. You can find the full list of things to do at the Chicago Steampunk Expo here.
I will be at the convention hotel this Thursday evening for the “Myth of Man” screening and Q&A with director Jamin Winans. This bonus event doesn’t require an extra ticket. You can find more here about the screening. The full convention schedule is here, along with ticket information.
As always, you can find my full convention list on the Events page of my website here.
A Summer of Wickedly Dangerous Fairytales
The first few books in the Wickedly Dangerous Fairytales series are up for pre-orders, including my book, The Clockwork Coffin! Several authors came together to create twisted fairy tales in their own worlds, from the classics to the more obscure.
The first book, Poisoned Apple by Cedar Rose, is out on June 3rd!
My story, The Clockwork Coffin, will be available later this year. (Attendees of the Chicago Steampunk Expo are getting a sneak peek of the first chapter!)
Unlock the magic and mystery of The Clockwork Coffin—where alchemy, curses, and slow-burn romance collide in a darkly enchanting tale.
Tropes:
🔹 Gothic fairy tale
🔹 Monsters and magic
🔹 Cinnamon roll hero
🔹 Black cat/golden retriever
🔹 Slow-burn romance
🔹 Only one piano
Happy reading!
