Pre-Orders are LIVE for Alchemy and Automatons! ๐โ๏ธ๐
๐ Open for the new Strange Happenings book + event news!
Hello!
Have you ever been to a book festival? Iโve been to several conventions, but the DSM Book Festival was my first ever festival, both as an author and a reader. I had an amazing time! There were so many readers and authors in the building. I barely had time to snap a couple pictures. Iโd love to return next year. Until then, I need to reorder more books before DemiCon!
After the book festival, I attended pirate night at Ironside Axe Club. Seeing friends from BrassGears and Orckes & Trolles / Top Hat Carolers again made my night.
My axe throwing has finally improved! So many people were patient with me. One of the workers spent some time helping me and he figured out the answer for my throwing mishaps: I needed to use a heavier axe with both hands, with my non-dominate hand on top. For most people, it's the opposite. I hit the bullseye a lot once I switched positions. Go figure!
(I'm sure there's a metaphor there about leaning into my weird or something. ๐ ๐)
Iโm so glad that I had those outings. It was a much-needed break from routine. Last week, I was buried in revisions, but I have some good news: Pre-orders are live for the next Strange Happenings Collection, Alchemy and Automatons! Scroll down for more details!

Pre-orders are live for Alchemy and Automatons! These stories directly follow the events of Monsters and Machines and feature more Lucille, Rosie, Evelyn, Adam, and a new POV character. The format will be very similar to the previous Strange Happenings Collection, bringing together a series of novelette length stories in one volume.
Scroll down for the blurb and pre-order link! Stay tuned for more info coming soon! ๐
Author of Monsters and Machines, Kelsey Josephsonโs alternate history set in a world with automatons, mad science, and found family.
Returning to the Worldโs Fair was the last thing Rosie wanted to doโฆ
The year is 1893. Surviving the Columbian Exposition was only the beginning. Rosie must test her mettle once again while working for Nikola Tesla. Lucille finds a fresh start without her creator. Their fragile peace shatters as the past follows them to New York. Worst of all, something far more sinister than Eddisonโs men is closing in, threatening to tear Rosie and Lucille apart. They must reunite with old allies and enemies where it all began.
Strange Happenings is a series of short stories set in an alternate timeline, where steampunk technology clashes with the monstrous. The Alchemy and Automatons collection brings together four tales of mystery, horror, and adventure.
DemiCon is Coming Soon!
While I was at the book festival, I met, Alan Koslow, the host of one of the panels Iโll be on at DemiCon. Iโm so excited to be on his panel, Science Fiction from Ancient Greece Until 1890! I really enjoyed talking to him at the book festival and I think the panel is going to be fun. (Also, I was delighted to find out that heโs a magician! If I get a chance at the convention, I want to ask him more about that for a future WIP.)
The full schedule hasnโt been posted yet for DemiCon, but here are the panels I can confirm that Iโll be participating in:
Monstrous Women: Come explore the evolution of monstrous women, starting with their depictions in classic myths and fairy tales and concluding with their roles in modern speculative fiction, comics, movies, and more.
Fusion Worlds: Blending Fantasy and Science Fiction for Unique Narratives: Explore the art of merging the realms of fantasy and science fiction to craft compelling stories. Weโll discuss how genre mashups can complement and enhance each other, creating rich worlds and unforgettable characters.
Reading of Monsters and Machines
Science Fiction from Ancient Greece Until 1890
Performing in the BrassGears Adventurers Society Radio Play
I might have a few more announcements about DemiCon in the coming weeks, but I canโt wait for the convention! DemiCon 36 will be in Des Moines, Iowa, from May 2nd-4th, 2025. Iโll have a table in the vendor room with my books when Iโm not paneling. For more info about DemiCon, click here. (If you havenโt booked your room yet, the window for that is closing soon!)
As always, you can find my full convention list on the Events page of my website here.
New VIP Ticket at the Chicago Steampunk Expo
I canโt believe weโre only two months away from the Chicago Steampunk Expo! Thereโs only one more month left to book your room. The convention recently announced the Exposition VIP Experience with all kinds of perks that you can read about here.
The Chicago Steampunk Expo takes place from May 30th to June 1st. Iโll have a table in the Palace of Fine Arts (the vending room with artists and authors) and also presenting a few panels:
What if? Exploring Alternate History in Media
Reading of The Clockwork Coffin
The Chicago Steampunk Expo recently announced a bonus exclusive one night only pre-event (no extra ticket) for the evening of Thursday, May 29th, 2025! Theyโll be hosting a screening of the new Steampunk epic film Myth of Man followed by a Q&A session with director Jamin Winans and producer Kiowa Winans!
Wild West Con 13.5
Iโve never attended Wild West Con, but I know several people who love the convention. Due to unfortunate circumstances, the convention was forced to end early. However, theyโre coming back with a free virtual conference May 16 to 18, 2025. Theyโll have panels, special guests, and even a concert! You can read more about the WW13.5 here and register here.
I canโt wait for May! Iโm going to be busy, but I love getting to spend time with readers, authors, artists, cosplayers, and all kinds of creatives. Shortly after Iโm back from Chicago, Iโll be off to the 60th Annual Nebula Awards Conference! I really enjoyed going in person the last two years. Spending time with other authors and learning from the panels helps me recharge.
Registration just opened! If youโre an author (or an aspiring one) you can find out more here.
Happy reading!
