This serial is a steampunk fairy tale retelling, filled with mad science, airships, and magical tech! It will be released as 600-5,000 word episodes on Patreon , Kindle Vella , Radish , Fictionate , and Laterpress .
Introducing Forsaken Beauty and the Etherbeast
An unconventional beauty.
A tormented beast.
And the ether that binds their fate.
After her own father sells her to the unscrupulous Ringmaster, strongwoman Belle thinks she'll spend the rest of her days performing cheap stunts while the Nuzaran masses gawk at her ether-poisoned body. A chance encounter with a beast by her solitary campfire changes everything. Can they find liberation or will the past consume them both?

How to Read Forsaken Beauty and the Etherbeast on Patreon
If you don’t live in the US or you’d prefer another option, you can read Forsaken Beauty and the Etherbeast on Patreon . If you’re unfamiliar with Patreon, it can be accessed either at Patreon.com or as an app in both Google Play and iOS. I can’t post any free episodes outside of Kindle Vella without violating their Terms of Service, so I included the first three episodes under the $1/month tier and wrote a free prequel episode on Patreon that can be read here .
Kindle Vella readers, you can also read this episode. It’s not behind a paywall. I wanted my Patreon readers to have a free preview episode but I couldn’t use anything on Kindle Vella without violating their ToS. This is my workaround. All my readers deserve a chance to read a preview.
For $3/month, you’ll have access to all of the episodes as they’re released, starting with the first five episodes. All Patrons will have access to my Patreon-exclusive behind-the-scenes podcast, Strange Questions. You can read more about the different tiers on Patreon here .
Why Patreon?
From my letter on Patreon , here’s why I chose to release on Patreon as well as Kindle Vella :
Hello!
I’m Kelsey Josephson, author of the Strange Happenings and Forsaken Beauty and the Etherbeast serials. My favorite genres to write are speculative fiction, sci-fi, and fantasy, all with a dash of horror.
Strange Happenings is a gaslamp fantasy serial set around the 1893 World’s Fair and available on most distributors here . You can also find out more about the serial on my website here .
Forsaken Beauty and the Etherbeast is a steampunk fairy tale retelling, filled with mad science, airships, and magical tech! It will be released as 600-5,000 word episodes on both my Patreon and on a paid reading service.
So, why am I on Patreon?
I wanted to make Forsaken Beauty and the Etherbeast accessible for more readers and I thought Patreon would make an excellent home for it.
The other reason I’m on Patreon is I’m currently working on a novel version of Strange Happenings. Writing is going well on the project and I’m on track to completion. The book will be available both in both eBook and print form. However, I’ve reached a point in my writing career I need to scale up my advertising. Unfortunately, when most of my available work is only $0.99 per story, before the distributors take their cut, my profit margins are razor thin.
I’ve been able to do a few ads, but some of the paid newsletters with the biggest impact are well beyond my budget at this time. I would like to use this Patreon to fund some of those dream newsletters and advertisements to help my book reach even more readers. In addition to writing, I’m a mother to two young children. With more funding, I’ll be able to use my limited writing time for producing fiction instead of having to spend so much time working on organic reach on social media. Anything I earn beyond that will go towards more ambitious projects, artwork commissions, and beyond.
If you’ve read this far, thank you so much for your time. I appreciate any and all support!
