Hello! It has been a minute since I sent off my last newsletter back in June, just after returning from the Chicago Steampunk Expo and the SFWA Nebula Awards Conference. If you’re new here, you probably signed up at one of the many events I attended last spring/early summer (DemiCon, the Nebulas, and the Expo), or you hit subscribe after a random post of mine took off about how I took a day off in the midst of a tight deadline.)

I’ve been a lot less active online since returning from all my adventures earlier this summer, but it was for an excellent reason: I turned in my secret project to the in-house editor last weekend! 🎉
There will be more work to do on this book after the editor does her job, but I’m so excited for this project and can’t wait to share more when it’s time. I’m so happy this draft is done (and so tired!)
I have several events coming up this fall and lots to share about those soon, but first, a quick recap of other cool things I’ve been up to:
📚 I’m the newest member of the Comics Committee for SFWA! (I have a personal vested interest in how comic book writers are represented in the organization and hope I can help bring about good changes.)
📚 My critique group has started reading the revised chapters of Clockwork Coffin. It’s getting there! (Please don’t ask when because even though I’m not a superstitious person, that seems to jinx this book.)
📚 I’m steadily getting more notes together for the Gothic steampunk convention tie-in novel, with plans to start outlining soon! I may be able to talk more about this book at TeslaCon. 👀
📚 More fun and exciting projects that are in early days.
New Book Event in Iowa!
Booked in Des Moines is coming on September 26th at the Olmsted Center at Drake University! I’m so honored that I get to be a part of its first year. This one-day event is organized by Sarah of Shelf Love DSM, my local romance bookstore. She has extensive experience running events and I know this is going to be a good time! I’m so excited to be a returning author at Fables and Flames November 6th-8th in Bloomington, Minnesota! Aside from having a table with my books and other fun bookish things, I’ll also be paneling this year! More details to come about that soon. I truly had an amazing time last year. Off to Oz at TeslaCon!
I will write more about TeslaCon in a future newsletter, as the schedule is still being posted, but I’m happy to report that all of my panels were approved! I’m hoping that I will be able to talk about the spin-off Gothic steampunk convention tie-in novel that Eric/Lord Bobbins of TeslaCon has asked me to write. Research for that project has been wonderful, and I can’t wait to share more when it’s time!

One thing I forgot to mention: Recordings of my panels are still coming to YouTube! It became too complicated to add that to my schedule this summer between revisions and having my kids + cats home with me. It won't be the most polished recording set up, but my hope is to to be able to share my panels with those who can't always travel to conventions.
