BTS of Romance Con + September Steampunk Events! 💖⚙️📚
Plus, more sci-fi, fantasy, and romantasy books for your TBR! 📚
Hello!
I hope you’re having a wonderful week! I’ve just returned from Romance Con and getting back into routine. While I had so much fun at the con, it’s good to be home and back to writing. I can’t wait to share more about The Clockwork Coffin and my other projects soon! In the meantime, I have lots of behind-the-scenes pics of Romance Con, two upcoming steampunk events to share, and more books for your TBR!
I loved getting to meet readers and authors at Romance Con. I ran out of bracelets and I’m nearly out of keychains. I’ll definitely be restocking the latter before TeslaCon in November. (I could make bracelets to trade if there’s enough interest. That isn’t something I usually see at steampunk events, but I wouldn’t mind starting a new tradition. 👀)
The masquerade was one of my favorite parts of the con.
This was also my first time visiting Milwaukee. It’s a gorgeous city and I loved all the architecture! If there were a steampunk event in the area, I’d definitely consider it because there are so many places that would be perfect for photos. The variety of restaurants was a fun surprise. We visited the The Oriental Theatre to see Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice and I was amazed by the details of the theater!
While I was in town, I didn’t want for coffee. A friend from the area told me all the options near me because of my saga of trying to find coffee at the Nebulas in Pasadena. 😅😂 I greatly appreciate her thoughtfulness! My favorite place was the Mid-Way Bakery at the 3rd St Market Hall. I forgot to take pics, but I loved both the Lavender Haze and English Toffee iced coffees. 💖
In other news, there are two steampunk events this September that I wanted to share. The first is the 11th Annual Conglomeration hosted by the BrassGears Adventurers Society in Oxford, Iowa, from September 13th-15h. This two-day event includes tea, telling stories by the campfire, kits, rides in a Velocipede, and other shenanigans. Check the Facebook event page for more details and to sign up for the potlucks. Don’t forget your camping gear if you’re staying on the property!
The second event is the Steampunk Picnic for H.G. Well’s 158th Birthday on Saturday, September 21st, in Chicago, Illinois, hosted by the Chicago Steampunk Expo. It’s BYOP (Bring Your Own Picnic) and will be located behind the Museum of Science & Industry (the only hall left from the 1893 Exposition. For more details, scan the QR code on the flyer below or check out the event page here.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make these events after traveling earlier in the month for Romance Con, but I love seeing the steampunk community gathering together! I’ll definitely be on the lookout for pictures when I’m not writing and prepping for TeslaCon! As always, if you’d like to know where I’m heading next, check the Events page of my website.
