Hello from the land of revisions! Since I’ve returned from conventions, I’ve been back at my desk more regularly, but I’m still taking a few breaks for summer adventures. While I've been working, I've been listening to a LOT of records. My favorites for background music have been the soundtracks from Howl's Moving Castle and the Lord of the Rings movies.
I'd love to find decent copies of Chopin and Simeon ten Holt, particularly of Canto Ostinato from the latter. (I know I can find their music on streaming, but the reason I like vinyl records so much is it forces me to stand up when it needs turned over to side B. It's a guaranteed stretch break. And no ads! 😊)
This week’s newsletter is a shorter one as I’m deep into my projects, but I have fun updates about TWO virtual events that I’m participating in this summer!

Book Club News!
Temporal Textual Talks is a steampunk book club hosted by Madame Askew and Bill Bodden. It takes places virtually every month, with readers from across different time zones. I love attending as a reader because the discussions are both hilarious and full of interesting insights. I’m thrilled to share that my steampunk fairy tale retelling, Forsaken Beauty and the Etherbeast, is August’s book club pick!
Book club will be discussing Forsaken Beauty and the Etherbeast on Sunday, August 24th, at 6:30 pm Central time and I’ll be in attendance. Closer to the date, I’ll share the event page with the Zoom link for the meeting.
In the meantime, you can check out the group here (and look for posts with the link to their very active Discord group.) I’m excited for July’s pick, too. We’re reading Clockwork Boys by T. Kingfisher!

Join me for a virtual reading?
I’m so excited to be one of the authors reading for Strong Women, Strange Worlds on July 17th! Join Pauline Barmby, Joyce Chng, Amanda Nevada DeMel, Karen Eisenbrey, Glori Medina, and me for a fun, free virtual reading by pre-registering here.

Before I get back to revisions, a reminder that I announced my upcoming TeslaCon panels. In case you missed it, you can find out more info here. TeslaCon will take place November 6th-9th, 2025. I’ll be both a panelist and in the vendor room with my books.
Finally, for my fellow sci-fi and fantasy authors (and aspiring authors), the early bird pricing for next year's Nebula Awards Conference ends on June 30th. I had an amazing time at this year's conference and I can't wait for the next one in Chicago June 2026! You can read more about it here.
Happy reading!
